A day on the north coast with your own driver
Once you are at the hotel in Golden Sands or Albena, the places worth seeing are spread along the coast and not easy to reach by bus. With a car and a driver for a few hours you can see several in one day and be back for dinner.
Balchik
A small town on terraces above the sea. The palace built for Queen Marie of Romania and its botanical garden are the main sight, and the harbour has fish restaurants.
Cape Kaliakra
A long, narrow headland with red cliffs dropping into the sea and the remains of a medieval fortress. On a clear day it is one of the most impressive views on the Bulgarian coast.
Aladzha Monastery
A rock monastery carved into a cliff in the forest just above Golden Sands, about 15 minutes from the resort.
Varna
The Sea Garden, the Roman baths and the cathedral in the centre. A good choice for a cooler or rainy day.
For a day like this we use the car with driver packages: 4 hours and 75 km in a standard car cost 120 €, and 6 hours and 100 km cost 150 €. A loop from Golden Sands to Balchik and Kaliakra and back usually fits in the 6-hour package. The driver waits at every stop.
